Health benefits of Epsom salt and essential oil baths

We all know how busy life can be, and how we don’t allow time for ourselves to relax.  I’ll admit, I really haven’t been one to allow myself a relaxing bath often.  It always sounds so soothing, but I would often make an excuse for not having the time.  It wasn’t until I started using dōTERRA essential oils that I started taking baths seriously.  I had no idea something as simple as a bath with Epsom salts and essential oils could be so beneficial to my health!


Aside from smelling wonderful and making me feel relaxed, there are a ton of health benefits of both Epsom salts and Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade (CPTG) essential oils, for both men and women!  So men who say, “I don’t take baths,” I encourage you to listen up and you may change your mind.

Magnesium sulfate is the technical term for Epsom salts.  It is recognized by the World Health Organization’s list of essential medicines A lack of magnesium—which helps regulate the activity of more than 300 enzymes in the body—can contribute to high blood pressure, hyperactivity, heart problems and other health issues, doctors warn. Sulfate is essential for many biological processes, helping to flush toxins and helping to form proteins in joints and brain tissue. Epsom salt baths can restore healthy levels of magnesium in the body, flush toxins, ease muscle and joint pain, and promote relaxation.  This at-home spa treatment is also very affordable!  We’re talking one dollar per pound of Epsom salts.  Coupled with 4-6 drops of CPTG essential oils, that’s an at-home spa treatment for under $2!

One of my favorite combinations is 2 cups Epsom salts, 3 drops dōTERRA Lavender  essential oil and 3 drops dōTERRA Melaleuca  essential oil.  Lavender is very calming for the skin, eases muscle tension, and helps promote restful sleep.  Melaleuca, commonly called “tea tree,” has strong antibacterial qualities and is renowned for its cleansing and rejuvenating effects on the skin.

Another wonderful combination at bedtime is 3 drops dōTERRA Vetiver  and 3 drops dōTERRA Cedarwood essential oil.  Both of these oils have a warm, woodsy fragrance that takes me back to the lush Oregon forest where I grew up.  Vetiver supports healthy circulation and has a grounding, calming effect on the nervous system.  Cedarwood has a relaxing effect on the mind and body, aids in skin recovery, and promotes healthy respiratory function.

Epsom salts are widely available, and can be found at most pharmacies and grocery stores.  dōTERRA essential oils can be purchased through my website: www.mydōTERRA.com/amandafitpanda, or by contacting me at amandafitpanda@gmail.com.  It is recommended to have three Epsom salt baths per week for at least 12 minutes, to fully receive the therapeutic benefits.  For an extra health boost, add dōTERRA essential oils and incorporate a good book, soft music, or just peace and quiet.
