Pilates: The History
Pilates was created by a man named Joseph Pilates in the early part of the 20th century. During his lifetime, Joseph published two books that really focused on his teachings and trainings. His students went on to open studios of their own and, thus a new type of Pilates started to develop. Joseph Pilates’ original teachings and trainings are known as the “classical” form. His students teachings are known to be part of this type of “classical/traditional” form. And, with many added techniques and fusions to other exercise methods and concepts, a new, more “modern” form of Pilates has become very prevalent in today’s fitness industry. In more recent years, some Pilates students published a now popular book further explaining this “modern” form of Pilates that has been developing.
